Practice guidelines

IPONZ maintains a number of Practices that are used as a reference tool for examiners. They set out procedural and legal matters relevant to the examination of applications under the Act.

Changes to assignment of designs

From 13 February 2012 there will be a change in practice relating to the assignment of designs.

Statement of novelty for designs

IPONZ wishes to clarify that only a single copy or instance of a "statement of novelty" is required to accompany an application and representations to register a design.

This is a collection of Patent Office practice notes that were published between May 1974 and May 1998. Please note that many of these practices have been superceded. This document is intended to be read in conjunction with the Information for Clients Index.
