Guide to registering for trade mark and design online services

27 February 2012

The IPONZ case management system for trade marks and designs gives you access to a full suite of online services that makes managing your intellectual property (IP) quick and easy.

What can you do?

  • Apply. Make an application and view the progress of your case from your personal electronic inbox.
  • Manage. Send and receive correspondence electronically, keep your contact details up to date and view your proceeding cases online.
  • Renew. Keep your trade mark or design protected by renewing.
  • Check. Create a subscription to receive notifications of changes about specific cases, or applications in particular classes and specification.

You need to be a registered user to access most of the services. There are no joining or maintenance fees.

How do I register?

There are two steps to become a registered user:

  • Step 1: Log on with igovt
  • Step 2: Create an IPONZ account. To do this, you will need to tell us who you are by selecting one of the following:
Option 1

I have received an email that contains an activation code from my organisation who is an existing user of IPONZ.

Option 2

I am going to apply to register a Trade Mark and/or Design right for the first time on my own behalf.

Option 3

I am going to apply to register a Trade Mark and/or Design right for the first time on behalf of an organisation.

Option 4

My organisation or I already own Trade Mark and/or Design rights but currently we do not have access to IPONZ Online Service.
(This option also applies to agents acting for applicants/owners that do not have access to IPONZ online services.)
