This is a guide for granting discretionary extensions during examination to accommodate delays in replying to applicants’ submissions, and for calculating the extension and extended date.

5.5. Post-dating at applicant’s request

Post-dating means changing the application filing date to a later date and is only applied to applications/specifications that have not been accepted. Once post-dated, the application is deemed for all purposes to have been filed on the later date.

On 16 November 2005, IPONZ issued the proposed “Guidelines for Examination of Methods of Medical Treatment of Humans” and “Guidelines for the Examination of Swiss-style Claims".
