Do I pay GST?

GST is required on fees paid by NZ residents or NZ based companies. Where one of a number of applicants is a New Zealand resident or a New Zealand based company, GST is required.

Overseas residents or companies based overseas are not required to pay GST on fees.

If you are required to pay GST and you do not do so, IPONZ cannot process your application until the required payment has been received. Your application date will then become the date on which your fee was paid in full.

Methods of payment

The preferred methods of payment for all Office fees are direct debit or credit card. For more information about setting up a direct debit account with our Ministry please see Get a User ID.

Fees can also be paid by cheque, bank draft or cash. Cheques and bank drafts are to be made payable to the ‘Ministry of Economic Development’.

Overseas residents will need to pay by bank draft made out in NZ$, or a cheque that can be drawn on a bank that has a branch in New Zealand.

Note: The Intellectual Property Office is unable to accept payment in the form of direct deposits (direct credits) in to the Office’s bank account.
