2. The application process

An application for the renewal or restoration of a trade mark registration may be made in one of two ways: in writing, or on-line. The online renewal facility allows users to restore lapsed trade marks up to 12 months after the expiration date of the registration.
Where a renewal or restoration application is made on paper, the Commissioner will accept any manner of written communication that contains all the requirements for filing the document under the Act. IPONZ has set out the minimum requirements.
IPONZ has also provided an example of the renewal form that contains all the requirements. The form simply illustrates one format and is not the only format that will be acceptable.
