This initiative will modernise the system used to apply for and manage intellectual property registrations. Our customers have evolving needs. This upgrade will make sure it continues to meet them and efficiently support MBIE's regulatory functions.
What you need to know
As we prepare for go-live, we may ask you to complete some account maintenance activities. This might include verifying your contact details or updating login credentials. This will help ensure a smooth transition and uninterrupted access to IPONZ services.
When it’s happening
We will deliver the upgrade in 4 major iterations over a 3-year period. The first release is planned for January 2026. It will focus on foundational system components and the Designs product application. More releases will follow, progressively enhancing other parts of the platform.
Why we’re upgrading
The current IPONZ platform has served us well for over a decade. As the IP landscape and customer expectations have evolved, so too must our technology. The upgrade will provide improved accessibility and usability for all customer types, from first-time users to seasoned IP professionals.
It will support better:
- service delivery
- regulatory compliance
- data management.
