IPONZ and CNIPA extend the joint Patent Prosecution Highway programme

IPONZ and CNIPA extend the joint Patent Prosecution Highway programme

After the success of the pilot programme, IPONZ and the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) have agreed to extend our Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) programme for another 5 years, until 31 October 2031.

This programme allows patent applicants to request accelerated examination in either office, provided that one or more claims of their application have been found to be allowable by the other office.

Since its introduction, the programme has provided applicants with a streamlined pathway to obtain patent protection across both jurisdictions. It has resulted in faster acceptance times in New Zealand and fewer examination reports before acceptance.
This extension ensures that applicants will continue to have access to an expedited examination process, helping them bring innovative technologies to market more efficiently.

More information on the IPONZ-CNIPA PPH programme is available on our website.
