Update to Trade Mark Practice Guidelines

IPONZ has updated its practice guidelines to include new Annexure General entries, and clarify how we consider applications that may have reached an impasse.

IPONZ has recently updated its practice guidelines as follows:

Annexure General

We’ve added a number of new entries to our Annexure General practice guidelines, and updated some existing entries. These include the following:

  • A new entry on Engineering Services.
  • An amended entry on Franchising Services.
  • A new entry discussing specifications with the wording “…goods in class X”, “…services in class X”, or similar.
  • A new entry on Property Development Services.
  • A new entry on Tourism Services.
  • A new entry discussing specifications with the wording “…derived from…”.

Examination of Trade Mark Applications

We’ve amended our practice guidelines on the Examination of Trade Mark Applications. These amended guidelines now clarify our practice for applications that may have reached an impasse, and outline what our examiners will consider in these situations.
